Many people believe that self-care and sustainability are the latest fads. These are just fancy words, and they are an ongoing trend. They are, however, mistaken because it is here to stay. Both are heroes in their own right. One saves oneself, while the other saves Mother Earth. When one is focused on, the other is frequently overlooked. But nothing beats the combination of the two. It has the potential to change the world. Humans who take care of themselves while also taking care of Mother Earth can be heroes without capes. 

The following are some small but significant ways to care for yourself and Mother Earth while doing so

  1. Make time in your day to enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or whatever beverage you prefer. Brew it slowly, and refrain from checking your phone for the next twenty minutes. While you’re at it, consider something that made you happy that day. Make it yourself, or if you buy it from a cafe, take it in your own cup to avoid using a plastic takeaway glass. Avoid consuming canned beverages.
  2. Plan one candlelight dinner with your loved ones each week. This adds to its excitement and uniqueness. It also saves two hours of electricity. Memories formed in the dark will undoubtedly last a lifetime. It could become a weekly tradition that you and your family look forward to. It could be accompanied by some soft music and if you’re in a competitive mood, you could play some board games. 
  3. Rather than succumbing to the latest trend of using face sheet masks. You could make a face pack at home. These homemade face packs are just as effective and contain no chemicals. A simple one could be some green tea or coffee powder with curd or turmeric, fuller earth, and honey. Another excellent method is to use tomato juice. Orange peel powder and papayas are also fantastic. An instant glow and a relaxed feeling are guaranteed. 
  4. Instead of jumping into your car and driving at full speed the next time you feel low after an argument, put on your shoes, put on your headphones and go for a brisk walk. Not only is the walk good for your health, but it also saves you money on petrol, and being in nature is generally therapeutic. Your nerves will soon calm, and you will feel at ease. 
  5. Buy yourself as many gifts as you want for your birthday, but also do something for Mother Earth. Plant a sapling, give saplings as gifts, and encourage those you care about to do the same. One small sapling can grow into a tree in twenty years and provide so many benefits in the form of fruits, shade, and protection. 
  6. When you feel out of control, declutter and see if some items can be reused or recycled. You will feel lighter and more in control of your surroundings and emotions the moment you do this.
  7. If you enjoy reading, consider purchasing a Kindle or thrifting books. Always be willing to lend and borrow. Consider how many trees are felled in order to print books! You just reduced that figure. Doesn’t it feel good?

Next time you do something for yourself, make a conscious effort to make it environmentally friendly. You may feel lazy and avoid it one time, but this will only add up and cause harm to Mother Earth in some way. Take action as a responsible citizen. Every decision matters, and you can start making the right ones right now.
