There are three primary modes of transport that you can carry your pets with. You can either take them in your car, on trains, or on flights.
Train:
Trains are ideal if you want to travel long distances along with your pets. It is quite safe, and convenient and is more affordable as well. You can carry your pets on trains and it is a convenient way to travel as well. However, there are a few rules and regulations that you must be aware of.
Not being aware of these can make your travel a bit confusing and even irritating. So, here are all the rules that you need to know. As per Indian railways, pets are placed under the category of luggage and thus, there are certain regulations that you must adhere to.
- There are two possible options in which you can carry your dog. You can carry them in a coupe (that has only 2 berths) or a cabin (that has only 4 berths) of an A.C train. You cannot carry them in AC sleeper coaches or AC chair cars.
- If any other passenger is present in the coupe or cabin and they complain about your dog, they would have to travel in the luggage compartment that has boxes specially designed for dogs.
- After booking your ticket, you must write to the Chief Commercial Office and explain that you are travelling with your pet. This will allow them to allow you a cabin or a coupe and not random berths in the AC compartment.
- It is your responsibility to carry chains or collars for your pet and arrange food and water for them as well.
- Large dogs must be carried in special vehicles. The same is applicable to horses as well.
Flight:
Most airlines permit dogs to travel, though the rules and regulations might differ a bit. Here are some common rules that apply to pets.
- You can carry your pet either in the cabin or checked-in baggage, as per the rules of the country of destination.
- You must carry your pet in a proper kennel or ventilated bag of the prescribed size.
- You must carry their health certificate and vaccination certificates as well.
- You must take care of entry permits or other documents as required by the destination country.
- You are responsible for compliance with government agencies, customs and health departments.
