Pets complete us. They prove to be real and loyal companions who love us unconditionally. As a result, a pet is as precious as any other family member and pet owners love their fur babies more than anything else. Many even travel across the country with their pets. If you are a pet owner who’s looking to travel with your pet, we have some handy tips for you. Take a look.
Travelling the distance
There are some modes of travel where you can easily take along your pet cat or dog. If you are travelling in your own car, then you don’t need to take permission from anyone. The pet can travel with you within the borders of the country to any part. If you use a hired vehicle, you need to check with the hiring agency to see whether or not you can travel with the pet.
Indian Railways also allows you to travel with your pet. However, to take a pet animal, you need to book a coupe in the first-class compartment of the train, as pets are not allowed in the general compartments. You need to book the entire coupe and then you can easily travel with your fur baby.
As for airlines, most Indian airlines allow you to take your pets along, but they are not allowed in the main cabin. You need to put them in a crate and hand them over to the crew, who in turn place them in the cargo compartment of the same airline. So you technically travel together but may need to be separated from your pet for the hours of travel.
Lodging
Sadly, not every hotel in India allows pets. So you need to do your research beforehand and find a hotel at your destination that allows you to stay with your pet. The other alternative is for you to AirBNB a holiday home or serviced apartment. These places commonly allow pet stays, so you will be able to have a comfortable stay with your pooch.
Food and medicines
When you travel with your pet, remember to carry your pet’s food for the journey. You may not get pet-friendly food while you travel or stay at a hotel. Carry packaged food to ensure he or she has the right meals to have and is not exposed to any food-related dangers. Also, carry the regular medicines so that you can administer them if there is an emergency.
Leaving them behind
If for some reason you need to leave them behind when you travel, leave them with a trusted friend or relative. This is the best and the safest option. Kennels and homes are also available, but sadly, most of them don’t always offer the best services. If you are forced to leave your pet at a kennel or home, do ample amounts of research and find the best place to ensure the pet will be treated properly in your absence.
